Employer Tours: altafiber

On June 23, 2025, we had the pleasure of visiting altafiber for an Employer Tour at their corporate headquarters in downtown Cincinnati. This visit focused on careers in Consumer Sales and Information Security; however, altafiber also provided a thorough overview the company’s culture and benefits for all prospective employees.

Company Overview

altafiber’s mission is to deliver an exceptional customer experience and a best-of-breed fiber network that is critical to our communities.  

As a leading technology provider in the region for over 150 years, altafiber offers fiber-based gigabit internet to nearly 100% of single-family homes and businesses in the Cincinnati area. The company currently employees roughly 1,200 in Greater Cincinnati.

Hiring & Benefits 

altafiber is currently hiring for full-time and part-time roles, as well as offering internship opportunities. These roles are local to the broader Cincinnati-Dayton region, in addition to job openings in other parts of Ohio.  

Applicants can expect a recruiter to contact them via phone or email within 2-3 business days, followed by 2-3 interviews. The typical hiring process at altafiber takes about three weeks to complete.

Job Spotlight: Consumer Sales 

We had the opportunity to learn about three distinct roles available within altafiber’s Consumer Sales department. Amanda Field, Manager II, Consumer Sales and Matt Reitenbach, Director III, Sales provided thorough overviews of positions in telesales, field sales, and retail sales.  

The ideal candidate for these roles is resilient, adaptive, self-motivated, goal-oriented, collaborative, and possesses the following: 

  • Clear and persuasive communication skills 
  • The ability to build rapport with customers using patience, empathy, and confidence 
  • Ethical selling practices and respect for customer privacy 
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, including email and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms 
  • Superior consultative selling skills, including the ability to handle objections and utilize closing techniques 

Telesales 

Telesales employees spend most of their workday making outbound phone calls to a list of sales prospects in an office environment. A typical day includes making about 300 outbound calls, although the number of calls may vary based on the number of actual conversations that occur.  

Field Sales 

Field sales employees interact directly with customers face-to-face, typically at the customers’ homes. Prospective field sales employees must be able to walk and/or drive between homes in the region. Due to the mobile nature of this role, a valid driver’s license is required.  

Retail Sales 

Retail sales employees engage with customers face-to-face at altafiber retail locations in the Greater Cincinnati region. altafiber currently operates retail locations in Anderson, Dayton, Florence, Jungle Jim’s (Fairfield), Kenwood, Lebanon, West Chester, and Western Hills, with more locations planned to open soon.

Job Spotlight: Information Security 

Brian Rappach, Director I, Security Architecture and Solutions spoke to us about career opportunities in Information Security, primarily focusing on Security Analyst roles and Information Security internships. 

The Information Security team is responsible for several duties, including:  

  • Consulting with business units to help design and verify secure systems 
  • Monitoring and responding to threats against systems 
  • Evaluating and maintaining third-party relationships 
  • Maintaining policies related to the security of systems and devices 
  • Developing and maintaining the identity platform for the organization
