The Workforce Innovation Center partnered with Advanced Manufacturing Industry Partnership (AMIP) to connect our workforce providers with several employer tours during Manufacturing Month in October 2024.  These tours and discussions at employers’ locations help us better understand employers’ workforce needs, what sets their companies apart, and how our partners can help their participants get jobs with the employer tour hosts.

Company Overview

One of these tours was Metalworking Group’s Colerain Township facility. Metalworking Group is a fabrication and machining company that operates two facilities in Colerain Township and Fairfield. The company is actively seeking to hire new employees, and they have dedicated significant time and resources to developing specialized onboarding and training programs aimed at ensuring the success of new hires.

Available Roles

Metalworking Group offers a range of entry-level positions including roles in the paint shop hanging parts, shipping, receiving, assembly, and forklift operation. The company emphasizes career growth by providing upskilling opportunities and pathways for promotion, enabling employees to reach their full potential and achieve their career aspirations. In addition to conventional hiring methods, Metalworking Group has explored alternative recruitment strategies, such as temp-to-hire programs and partnerships with trade schools and high school co-ops to meet client demands and cultivate future full-time talent.

Starting wages for these roles are typically $17-$18 per hour, with some entry level welding positions offering higher starting salaries. Work hours are 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Employees at both facilities work Monday through Thursday, with Fridays reserved for half-day overtime shifts when necessary. Company leadership highlighted that blueprint reading and math and communication skills are among the most important qualifications for these positions.

Employment Benefits

Metalworking Group is dedicated to retaining top talent by offering a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee well-being. This package includes three health insurance plan options depending on the individual employee’s needs, dental and vision coverage, and tenure-based policies for paid time off and vacation.  In addition, the company provides 100% employer paid short and long term disability coverage, a 5% 401(k) match as well as discretionary bonuses if business conditions warrant.

We are grateful for the opportunity to tour Metalworking Group’s facility and discuss their workplace needs.
